Most of the book went like this: Mercy in fight with creature, Mercy recounts fight to police, Mercy recounts fight to lawyers, Mercy recounts fight to pack x2.

Not so much in a plot way (though that was a bit meh), but in a writing style kind of way. At first the drama with Adam's ex wife was exciting because it had the potential for passion and character development. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart. Christy's stalker is more than a bad man-in fact, he may not be human at all. Mercy isn't about to step down without a fight, but there's a more dangerous threat circling. She wants Adam back, and she's willing to do whatever it takes to get him, including turning Adam's pack against Mercy. New people are introduced into the story line AND something very very GOOD happens. There was so MUCH OTHER STUFF going on! And holy cow, yes, that other stuff is amazing and difficult to read and wonderful. Somehow all the Christy stuff, while she is still a sly and manipulative piece of schka, didn't impact me like it did on first reading. more it up again and had to backtrack in the story to get into the swing. I didn't want to ruin my Mercy Thompson (and Alpha and Omega) voyage with this book. Review 2: I had read some reviews before reading this book, so when I got to the ex-wife (in the early pages so no it isn't a spoiler) and realized she was just as sly and manipulative as what other readers had said she was, I put it aside. The book is great and I love the relationship between Adam and Mercy. That is what I think helped me finish the book without throwing it or closing it when Christy appeared. Thankfully I had such a horrible idea of what Mercy would ssuffer that the reality paled in comparison. I was prepared for the horror of having her inside Mercy's home. Review 1: I was prepared to hate Adam's ex.
